From building systems to building leadership.

I’m Jen Hutchinson.

I spent years in finance and operations, serving as CFO of a $35M organization and as a Director of Operations, consultant, and fractional COO for mission-driven organizations, leading them through growth, change, and complexity.

I learned how to balance a budget, build systems, and steady an organization through uncertainty.

I also saw what no spreadsheet could fix: capable, committed leaders stretched past their limits, filling every gap the organization couldn’t, and burning out inside top-down structures that disconnected them from the very mission they came to serve.

That’s when it became clear to me: values define what you do. Systems define how you do it. Leadership sustains both. Today my work focuses on that third piece, through workshops that help leaders and teams share the load, and consulting that builds organizations strong enough not to depend on heroes.

What I Believe

Burnout is a design problem, not a dedication problem. When good people keep burning out, the answer isn’t working harder. It’s changing how the work is organized.

The people closest to the work should help decide how it’s done. They see problems, and solutions, that leadership can’t see from the top.

Good systems are a form of care. Clear roles, honest budgets, and workloads that match real capacity protect people better than any wellness program.

Mission-driven doesn’t have to mean under-resourced. Organizations should be built for the size of the change they’re trying to make.
